Lemonaid Club

The Lemonaid Club is the youth arm of our organization.  It is for young ladies ages 13-18, and its main focus is on health education.  The activities and workshops teach young women about the warning signs of endometriosis and other menstrual disorders.  The club offers a safe place for young ladies to ask questions about their bodies and the changes of adolescence and young adulthood.  We have speakers who will share insight on healthy choices. While we are not a sex education program, we have classes that educate about STD transmission.  Our primary demographic is African-American and Latina young women.  It is essential to provide health education to these young ladies because the rate of STDs, teenage pregnancy, and HIV occurs at a higher rate within this demographic.

In addition to the health component of the club, there are fun activities that promote sisterhood and self-esteem among young ladies.  We have movie nights, trips to the skating rink, etiquette sessions, and a trip to an upscale restaurant is our culminating event.  Before the trip, the young ladies will have had etiquette sessions and learn the correct silverware to use in fine dining settings.  They will also learn social graces such as conversations, cell phone usage in public, and dressing appropriately for different settings.  All club participants will receive a four-month supply of feminine hygiene products.  We will provide Chromebooks for those who need them, as some programming is virtual.
